Yoganathan/Jacobs Sound System
Cabral Jacobs and Nimalan Yoganathan are multi-instrumentalists and sound artists who push back against rigid musical genre categories. Over the past two decades, they have been collaborating together as members of numerous groups, including Dead Bush and Chimurenga Electroacoustic Ensemble, which emerged from Montreal's experimental/noise scene of the mid-2000s. For their current Yoganathan/Jacobs Sound System project, they explore the more minimalist territory, attempting to insert unsettling silence, sonic ruptures, and repetitive rhythms into their improvisations. Their Sound System navigates the intersections between dub, free jazz and experimental electronic music.
