Ayelet Rose Gottlieb
Described as an “intoxicating vocalist” (Vancouver Sun) with an “individually rigorous tone” (Ben Ratliff, New York Times), Jerusalem-Born Ayelet Rose Gottlieb is a musician, multidisciplinary visionary and mother. Her voice and compositions blend jazz, middle-eastern & Jewish music in a contemporary, improvisatory approach.
A collaborator of composer John Zorn, ETHEL string quartet and Palestinian-American poet Naomi Shihab Nye, Ayelet loves composing long-form song-cycles around themes inspired by poetry, dreams and nature. Mayim Rabim (2006, Tzadik) features her compositions to erotic biblical poetry. In her instrumental suite "Shiv'a," (2016, 482music) she explores the process of mourning. Pneuma quartet joins her voice with three virtuoso clarinetists playing wind-inspired repertoire (Songlines 2019.) Ayelet’s “13 Lunar Meditations: Summoning the Witches,” sheds light on voices of womxn and girls from around the world in a myriad of languages.
Musicworks wrote following her 2021 FIMAV concert: “It must be noted that Gottlieb’s group was the most pleasant surprise of the festival; her stunning compositions were played with gusto by a dream band."
In 2019, Ayelet founded “Orchard of Pomegranates,” a feminist learning community on Patreon hailed by NYC Jazz Record as "Highly recommended for anyone interested in expanding their musical horizon.” She curates workshops by cutting edge artists including vocalist Fay Victor, choreographer Aria Evans and dream-master IONE.
