Andy Moor
Andy Moor is a musician who has been pushing the boundaries of experimental music for over 27 years. Moor first gained notoriety for his contribution to the band Dog Faced Hermans before becoming the official guitarist of the Dutch experimental punk band The Ex, with whom he still plays. He has since become known for his unique blend of free jazz, rebetika, and sound art.
Moor's music-making approach is rooted in improvisation, with 90% of his music based on spontaneous creation. He has been known to eschew rules, preferring to be led by spontaneity and instinct. This approach led him to collaborate with sound artist Yannis Kyriakides and designer Isabelle Vigier to found the Unsounds label in 2001. The label has released records by Robert Ashley, Francisco Lopez, John Butcher, Kaffe Matthews, and Anne-James Chaton.
Despite his years of experience, Moor remains committed to challenging himself artistically. He is currently exploring new techniques for using the baritone guitar in The Ex and working to fuse his analogue electric guitar sound with primarily electronic accompaniment in his collaborations with Kyriakides, Colin Mclean, and Chaton.
