Overview: In a series of three free events in Casa’s basement, artists are given free rein to install whatever they’d like to reimagine the space - site-specific installs, projects, screen prints, and who knows what. These art happenings are subterranean takeovers that will coincide with showtimes upstairs, Mondays to Wednesdays, for people to wander in and out as they please. The artists invited for this year’s subterranean takeover artists are:
June 5-7 Jean Couteau
June 12-14 Gambletron & Johnny Forever
June 19-21 Et tu, Machine (Alexis O’hara & Atom Cianfarani)
Et tu, Machine is a collaboration between two interdisciplinary artists, Alexis O'Hara and Atom Cianfarani. While Alexis' practice has focused on performance & sound art, Atom's background is in sculpture, design and green infrastructure. Together, they create spaces and situations that question the urban landscape and social structures via a playful détournement of materials, particularly discarded items and the creation of immersive environments that highlight a spirit of "queer imagineering". QUESTIONS FOR WHITE PEOPLE is an immersive space featuring video, sound installation and soft sculpture designed to provoke reflection on white supremacy by engaging with satirical representations of toxic whiteness.
