LISTENING SESSION WITH ZIAD NAWFAL / MUSIC FROM THE SWANA REGION
Join us for a listening session focused on music from the SWANA region (South West Asia and North Africa), spanning recent releases, archival material, and personal selections. The program draws primarily from Nawfal’s Beirut-based label Ruptured Records, alongside works from close collaborators and affiliated platforms such as Beacon Sound, Six of Swords, Nahal Recordings, and Mais Um.
Moving across different moments and contexts, Nawfal will share music shaped by long-standing exchanges between artists and scenes, offering brief context where needed while keeping the focus on the listening experience itself.
Presented as part of Suoni Per Il Popolo, 28 June 2026, at Casa del Popolo starting 1pm.
Ziad Nawfal is a Beirut-born, Montréal-based radio host, curator, and founder of Ruptured. Since the early 2000s, he has played a central role in documenting and supporting experimental and independent music from Lebanon and the wider SWANA region through both broadcasting and publishing. His long-running radio programs (first on Radio Liban and later online) have traced evolving underground scenes while introducing international audiences to artists working across noise, free improvisation, electronic music, and contemporary composition.
In 2009, he co-founded Ruptured with studio owner Fadi Tabbal as a platform to release and circulate this work, helping bring global attention to a generation of Lebanese and regional artists. Alongside the label, Nawfal has organized concerts, facilitated collaborations, and sustained an active network of exchange between musicians across the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Based in Montréal since 2021, he is currently part of the team at Constellation. His work is grounded in a commitment to independent cultural production.
