For Suoni, Bread & Puppet Theatre presents “Mother Dirt: Preeminent Victor over Genghis Khan”, performed by the company with students from Concordia University Theatre Department’s Performance Creation Field School.
“Mother Dirt: Preeminent Victor over Genghis Khan” is a series of paintings about aspects of Mother Dirt as presented by The Earthling Society of Glover, Vermont and Montreal and its forces. It is about celebrating Mother Dirt's defeat of history's largest empire, the Mongol Empire of Genghis Khan, who was tolerant of all religions, established the world's largest library system, and was governed by only the sky, their god. However, they were no match for Mother Dirt, who needs no war or war brutalities to reign permanently and festively. Nobody messes with Mother Dirt.
Known to make grown men cry love-tears, Bread and Puppet Theater was founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann in New York City’s Lower East Side. From their earliest productions, the theater focused on addressing issues of their community, including rent, rats, and police.
