I Am Neil "Zibz" Guilding
A man who honours justice and respect in love with health and consciousness.
I came to Canada as a teenager, with my siblings where we joined our parents here in Montreal after many years of separation. It wasn't long before I realized this was a different world from my native land of St.Vincent and the Grenadines. For instance the fixation of the colour of my skin and my accent to the point of, if I didn't know I was Black, they certainly made me feel that. It's not that I wasn't proud to be who I am, but there were so many questions that I had, as to why things were the way they were.
Being on the local music scene I was invited to jam with a local group which was an immediate hit and from that point on I never looked back but forward in creativity. From my original band Swinging Relatives, to some of these other bands I've played in: Kalmunity Vibe Collective, Inuaso, Ikinjah, Riverflow, Inna Power, Ora, Kalimba Kalimba, Ark Of Infinity, Jah Cutta and The Determination band and presently my new band TAR. This journey has inspired me to write poetry. I had my own radio show for ten years at CRSG (CJLO) and was a guest on many shows on CKUT, I had my own night and special events at Isart where I cooked food, DJed (with an open mic component). The evening was called Kool & Calm.
I am looking to put my skills to better use within the community, to work with youth, cultural and historical race relations, artistic creative justice, elements of change and growth.
