The Nausea
The Nausea is an experimental, sound art, noise, and electronic project combining string instruments, percussion, voice, and electronics composed and performed by BC-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, performer and noise/sound artist, Anju Singh.
The project prioritizes texture to create dense and immersive sonic environments through the use of extended/experimental techniques, electronics, musical and non-musical materials, custom-built instruments, and processing. A core process in her practice is using methods of deconstruction and reanimation to repurpose and contextualize materials in new compositional environments.
Anju composes for ensembles, film, opera, and theatre and has presented and performed work across Canada including at Initial Shock Festival in Montréal, in Europe, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States including at Fylkingen in Stockholm, Sweden; Send + Receive Festival in Winnipeg; Vancouver Jazz Festival; Polygon Gallery; New Forms Festival; and across Japan. Her work has been commissioned and/or supported by Centre D'Expérimentation Musicale (CEM) in Saguenay, Le Vivier in Montreal, Canadian League of Composers, and New Music Concerts in Toronto. She most recently composed a 80-minute piece for 7 musicians called “Neptune” that was performed in Montréal in February.
