Sanam
SANAM's music, born from a 2021 Beirut festival collaboration with Faust's Hans Joachim Irmler, is a raw ritual. They blend improvised rock, free jazz, and noise to exorcise traditional Egyptian song and Arabic poetry. Formed by Sandy Chamoun (vocals), Antonio Hajj (bass), Farah Kaddour (buzuk), Anthony Sahyoun and Marwan Tohme (guitars), and Pascal Semerdjian (drums), they draw from Beirut's vibrant scene.
Recording in Lebanon's Saqi Reshmaya during a national crisis, they aimed for disconnection. Their live, no-overdub album, "Aykathani Malakon," mixes diverse styles, feeling "unearthly." Chamoun's vocals, featuring poets like Bassem Hajjar and Paul Chaoul, and composer Sayyid Darwish, create a hallucinogenic escape.
