Jason Tait
While best-known for his live and recorded work with The Weakerthans, Bahamas, Do Make Say Think and Broken Social Scene, Jason Tait’s interest in unusual sounds stretches back decades. It started with a little-known band called Bel Makina, which favoured drones, loose structures, and more out approaches to song form. Tait then turned to experimental film composition, including the award-winning multimedia art project Trains of Winnipeg by Clive Holden, and received a Canada Council grant to create and compose using circuit-bent electronics. Tait has collaborated with Christine Fellows and visual artist Shary Boyle on the interdisciplinary performance piece The Monkey and the Mermaid, and performed live soundtracks for Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers. Tait's debut album, Drum Solos, was released in 2018 and features rich drones that resemble 20th century minimalism. He is currently completing an interactive sound art project with the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation.
