Funk Lion
The Funk Lion experience is like an uninhibited psychedelic carnival with its wild rock and psyche delights infused with Afrofuturism, negro-spiritual singing, and voodoo funk.
Funk Lion is the musical project of Francis Brisebois, a Quebecer of Haitian origin who has been on a journey to create a sound that reflects his dual identity. This adventure began in 2011 when Brisebois travelled to Haiti to learn traditional rhythms. Since then, he has been working with artists who have enriched his experiences, such as La Bronze, Boogat, Maritza, and Samito.
In 2016, Funk Lion launched the song "Cité d'Or," which propelled his psychedelic shuttle into the Afro-futuristic universe. He released a first clip, directed by Éva Landry, and a remix by Boogat, under the Kartel Music label. This led to the release of his album Cité d'Or, whose songs are real stories of the quest for Eldorado and presented as a poetic manifesto of uprooting. The narrative frame is riddled with incursions into unusual places, such as a discussion with a shaman or a dance in a Haitian ceremony.
