Boneshaker (Paal Nilssen-Love& Mars Williams & Kent Kessler)

Norweigian iconoclast Paal Nilssen-Love—born on Xmas Eve, raised in a jazz club, appearing on over 60 albums since 2000 and considered by many (including Suoni’s Artistic Director Steve Guimond) as “the greatest drummer on earth”—is here with a premiere performance from his brand new trio. With Chicago saxophonist Mars Williams (who studied with Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell and toured with the Brotzmann Tentet Vandermark 5, The Psychedelic Furs, Billy Idol and Robert Palmer-era Power Station) and Indiana-born, Cape Cod-bred and Chicago-based bassist and Kent Kessler.

Not The Music (Éric Normand & Philippe Lauzier)

With their gentle noise and cracked linearity, the duo of Philippe Lauzier and Éric Normand enact a sound environment that is contemplative yet stands on the edge of the precipice; an environment in which the monsters of rough texture are tamed. Calling forth hidden lyricism from their instruments, Messrs. Lauzier and Normand scrape their fingernails across the proverbial blackboard to exquisite effect.
