The Suoni Per Il Popolo and Cinéma Moderne have joined forces to co-present a special program of online Québec, Canadian and international films selected with the expert help of guest curator Frédéric Savard. In keeping with the organizers shared Montréal ties and interest in experimental art forms, the program is built around themes such as women pioneers of early electronic music, experimental Canadian films, the musical work of Alanis Obomsawin and a retrospective of filmmaker Karl Lemieux’s work presented for the very first time in digital version.
Full programming is now online. Most films are free while a few have a small rental fee.
Frédéric Savard is a musician, archivist and independent curator who focuses on archival research and the reissue of overlooked or forgotten audio, film and video. Savard was instrumental in the recent rerelease of the album Bush Lady by legendary Abenaki filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin on Constellation Records in June 2018 and in the release of Blue World, an album of long-forgotten John Coltrane classic quartet soundtrack recordings on Impulse! Records in September 2019.
