Julian Kytasty

Julian Kytasty is one of the world's premier players of bandura (Ukrainian lute-harp). As a performer, recording artist, composer, and ensemble leader, he has redefined the possibilities of his instrument. Julian Kytasty has created music for theater, puppet theater, modern dance, and film, including an award-winning film score for the National Film Board of Canada documentary, “My Mother’s Village.” His most recent recordings are “Nights in Banduristan,” an album of solo bandura improvisations, and “Disturbance Fields,” an electro-acoustic collaboration with Kyiv composer Alla Zagaykevych. He has collaborated with Solomiya Moroz on a series of projects in New York City and most recently on an electro-acoustic piece premiered at the Kontrasty New Music Festival 2017 in Lviv, Ukraine.
