Ciudad de Quito Choir
The sound, the timbre, the music, the intention, the senses - all elements of the same art: singing. This gift, which the gods do not grant to everyone, lives in the 28 voices of the Ciudad de Quito Mixed Choir. At first (1993), this group was thought of as a Chamber Choir, made up of approximately 16 musicians. Currently, they have become a large choir, classified as one of the most important in Ecuador, with the capacity to interpret music of varied genres.
Created with the aim of promoting academic, popular, national and universal vocal art, the Ciudad de Quito Mixed Choir has participated in countless productions such as the Barber of Seville, Rigolleto, the Magic Flute, Traviata, Carmen, La Bohème, Dido and Aeneas, Elixir de amor, Luisa Fernanda, Verbena de la Paloma, Soro del Parral, the thriller Sweeney Todd, the Ecuadorian opera Manuela y Bolívar, the musical West Side Story in 2012, the Opera Fausto in 2013, the Mass Verdi's Requiem and La Rondine Opera in 2014. Additionally, they have participated in festivals and competitions such as the Guayaquil International Choir Festival or the International Choir Meeting in Cuzco, Peru; as well as in the Choral Competition organized by the Franz Lizst Conservatory, from which they emerged winners. Their ability to stage works with any genre, from any period, gives them an advantage and a wide spectrum to work in the choral field. The Ciudad de Quito Mixed Choir is emerging as one of the choral representatives at Latin American level.
