The Suoni Per Il Popolo, Quatuor Bozzini and McGill University’s IICSI presents a series of concerts and events entitled //Cardew 2014: The Great Learning.// Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981) was a central figure of British experimental music. Cardew also helped pioneer innovative formal approaches to music that are still relied on today.
Quatuor Bozzini avec John Tilbury, John Butcher, Jennifer Walsh, David Dove et Martin Arnold
//The Great Learning// is one of Cardew’s major works. It comprises a series of seven “paragraphs” with text from the writings of Confucius and scored for generally large numbers of both trained and untrained performers. “Paragraph 6” will be directed by the Bozzini Quartet’s Clemens Merkel. In order to match the spirit of the original Scratch Orchestra, the ensemble will contain musicians of varying age and experience.
Monday Night Choir sous la direction de Dina Cindric
“Paragraph 7” is a choral piece and will be presented by Montreal’s Monday Night Choir under the direction of Dina Cindric.
